Established & Secure. Founded in 1994 by Calvin Ayre, Bodog.com is a well known entertainment brand operating from Antigua and licenced for gaming by Kahnawake, Canada. Perhaps more recognised for their sportsbook and music divisions, Bodog Poker (online 2004) is well known on the online poker scene with their own player Jamie Gold winning the World Series of Poker's main event in 2006.

Software. A breed apart from most other online poker rooms, Bodog has broken the mould with it's sleek and professional graphics, you can customise almost everything with their independent software. I know the multitablers out there will love the 3 table mini view feature, although it's a shame that 3 tables is the maximum you can have open at any one time.

The learning curve can be quite steep when you first get started with Bodog, things aren't where you would expect to find them on other online poker sites. I kept closing down the software by accident when I tried to close a tournament lobby, but persevere with it as once you've got the hang of it Bodog is top-notch and well worth the time investigating it's many features.

Tournaments.Bodog offers plenty of tournaments at buy-ins to suit everyone. Their Sunday 100k, 9pm GMT (4pm ET) has qualifiers that run regularly all week starting at just $1 or you can buy-in directly for $109, you can even enter for free using 400 BPP's (Bodog Poker Points) to buy into a MTT where 1 in 27 receives a main event seat. You can also use your loyalty points to buy-in to to their t$ (tournament dollars) tournaments and build your points up to enter any tournament you choose.

For the hardcore tournament players out there, make it the top of BoDog Poker Tournament Leaderboard and Play a Pro. Every week the winner of the leaderboard gets to go heads up with a pro and you can choose from David Williams, Evelyn Ng or Josh Arieh, the prize money up for grabs in this freeroll is $1,000 (as if the bragging rights weren't enough!) and, should the pro win, the cash rolls over to the next week and the prize money has once reached $16,000. That's not all, it's not just the winner of the leaderboard who gets some action, view the leaderboard to see where you rank because the following prizes are waiting to be given away.

Weekly Prizes: 1st Play a Pro. 2nd & 3rd 270 Tournament Credits each (could be used to buy into a Players Choice semi final). 4th & 5th 110 Tournament Credits each (equal to buy in to Sunday $100K). 6th to 10th 50 Tournament Credits each. 11th to 15th 25 Tournamant Credits each.

Monthly Prizes. 1st 2,000 Tournament Credits. 2nd 540 Tournament Credits. 3rd to 5th 380 Tournament Credits each. 6th to 10th 110 Tournament Credits each. 11th to 20th 50 Tournament Credits each. 21st to 30th 25 Tournament Credits each.

Tournament Credits can be used to enter any scheduled tournament at an exchange rate of 1 Tournament Credit = $1; Tournament Credits and Dollars can be combined to pay for your tournament entry.

Warning: checking your leaderboard position can be addictive!

Current Promotions Be the crowned King of the Felt by being paid out in at least 3 x Sit n Go tournaments in a week and going on to win a free draw to play the current crown holder. There are not only Draw Tickets to be won but entries into $1k and $500 Freerolls. An extreme winning streak of 10 x Crowns could find you heads up with a Bodog Poker Pro, win and you are on your way to 2011 WSOP with a $12,000 prize package. See our Bodog Poker King of the Felt blog.

Bodog Satellites and Qualifiers None at present.

Cash Games. The cash games at Bodog have a good amount of traffic, the highest level is $10/$20 (max buy-in $1000) where you can always find a game, but it's at the micro limits that Bodog really excels with it's high traffic and soft games. No limit cash games at Bodog are listed in the lobby as 'maximum buy-ins' instead of blinds, which can be a bit confusing at first, but there are usually plenty of tables to choose from. Texas Holdem is definitely the game of choice at Bodog, but you can also find Omaha, Omaha hi/lo, 5 Stud and 7 Stud games running at peak hours.

BodogLife recently introduced a VIP scheme where you can regularly get cashback on your Poker Points. For every 100 points you earn playing at the tables, Bodoglife will give you $1. You earn the points depending upon the amount of rake generated at your table. The points earned if the rake generated is between $1-$3 = 1 point, if between 50c-95c = .5 point and 25c-40c = .25 point. The minimum number of Bodoglife Poker Points you can cash in are 2,000 and the maximum you can cash out per calendar month is 25,000. To check how many points you have in your account go to 'my account' and then access the points to cash tab, it's as simple as that!

Competition. Is it me or is this place full of fish? Maybe it's because alot of players are really sports and track enthusiasts giving a poker a go for a change, but most nights you can find tables with a player / flop percentage in the 60's, 70's and even 80's.
