THE 3d poker site, PKR.com, have taken the online poker world by storm with their stunning 3D graphics and realistic game play and table views. PKR.com went online in 2006 and promised a revolution in the way we play poker online with their unique 'emote control' and advanced game features. After taking a while to catch on with veteran online poker players, PKR is becoming the talk of the town and is an online poker experience not to be missed.

I found playing at PKR surprisingly enjoyable and started to find the other poker sites I play at very bland. The multitable feature where other tables you have open are shown in mini view to the right hand side of the window are very user friendly and makes multitabling so much easier if you are viewing on a small screen although I would prefer the option to have the option to have all 4 windows open at once and be able to play more than 4 games at one time.

With PKR you make your first deposit and choose your bonus to match your rate of play. Nearly all the cash games at PKR are in the low to medium stakes levels although you can find the odd $5 / $10 table running at peak times. Because alot of the players at PKR are there for the experience of playing with the advanced software and enjoy the community feel of the site there are less sharks playing and therefore the competition level is quite low. You can find some very easy games especially at low stakes.

There's an imaginative range of tournaments of offer at PKR. Most tourneys are played in Texas Holdem with the odd offering in Omaha and are designed to suit most budgets. There are plenty of guaranteed tournaments (mostly seating 6) and satellites plus a few tourneys unique to PKR - I've described a few of the more interesting below.

The PKR Masters, with $75,000 guaranteed, is PKR's most prestigious tournament and is held on a regular basis on the first Saturday of every month. The final table is broadcast on to over 35 million homes on PKR TV - http://www.youtube.com/pkrtv - with commentary from a Team PKR Pro and the hole cards revealed to the viewers. There are satellites running throughout the month from just $2 or you can buy in direct for $270.

Primetime and Mini Primtime give you the chance to play in different exciting tournaments every night of the week, Monday to Saturday. Primetime's tournament's kick off at 8.00pm UK - buy in $50, Mini Primetime tournaments start a little earlier at 7.45pm UK with a mini size buy in of $6. Mix it up through the week and save Sundays for the Main Event.

The Main Event, with $18,000 guaranteed, is an absolute must play for all lovers of pure poker who'll enjoy a professional standard structure for a reasonable $35 buy in, or satellite in from just $2. Perfect for working players the Main Event kicks off on the second Sunday of every month at 7pm UK and pauses at 12.30am, the game reconvenes at 7pm (Monday) for the final exciting stages of the event. If you're not back from work when the Main Event starts there's late registration for 2 hours.

PKR have introduced a new tournament format to suit their loyal players in Canada and Australia. The action takes place at times to suit these time zones with buy ins ranging from $8.40 to $55 so now you can get your hands on a share of big prizepools every night of the week. These tournies are easily found through the PKR lobby / tournaments / special. Remember that PKR server time is GMT so the Canadian Open's - also known as the Maple Leaf Series - start time is 1.15am (8.15pm Toronto) and the Austaliian Open's - also known as the Outback Series - start time is listed at 9.15 am (7.15pm Melbourne).

Double Thru format is all about sit n go survival, just hang in there until half the field is eliminated and you're in the money - take away at least 2 x your buy in. There's a wide range on buy ins to suit most bankrolls ranging from $1.50 to $30, all 10 seaters.

Terminator tourneys are similar to bounty tournaments we see at other poker sites where 50% of the prizepool goes into the prize pool and the remaining 50% acts as a bounty on any player you knock out. There's a twist though that you only receive 75% of that bounty yourself, the other 25% goes on your head and it added to your bounty - this means the bounties increase as the tourney goes on.

Break Thru tournaments are for ace bubble players, everyplayer (except 1st) will receive exactly the same prize, so last until the bubble and you're guaranteed at least 3x your buy-in, fab for grindersand satellite specialists!

Deep & Steep are regular tourneys with extra deep chipstacks and a steep blind structure with 5000 chips and 5 minute blinds instead of the normal 1500 chips and 10 minute blinds.

There is a healthy range of sit and gos at PKR with both regular and speed tourneys. The majority of sit n go's played seem to be 6 seaters but there are also 10 seater and heads-up tables available. Most tables are no limit Texas Holdem but there are a few Omaha PL sit and go's running at all times.

PKR run 11 daily freerolls ranging from $10 - $50 prizepools with the maximum number of entrants set at 2000. Anyone can take part and although the prizes aren't anything to write home about they can be a great way to get used to the PKR software and become more familiar with the advanced features before playing for real money.

The competition at PKR is low to average with not many professional sharks and plenty of leisure poker players.
